Hello.
I spent all of my 20 year career at Wieden+Kennedy, Portland. The first third of that was as a copywriter, and the next two thirds as a planner. Professionally speaking, that ratio about sums me up.
I switched to planning because I like doing that first bit of thinking and writing that gets everyone psyched about all the places we can take a brand. I like excavating the unique truths behind brands that make what we make infectious. And (for my sins, I guess) I like the idea of brands in general — these weird repositories of myth and meaning that do such interesting things in our brains.
Net-net, strategy is more of the stuff I like and less of the stuff I like less (i.e. production). But the creative in me is always present, picturing what work could come from the strategy, or writing strategy that sometimes becomes work all on its own.
