Nike: Dream Crazy
Despite what some fans want to believe, sport is inherently political. From Jesse Owens in Berlin to the Cleveland Summit to the podium protest in Mexico City, athletes have long used (and risked) their status to speak out for their communities. So when Colin Kaepernick began his protests in 2016, it seemed appropriate that a brand like Nike would also speak out in support of their athlete. At a time when people were shouting for players to “shut up and dribble,” Nike reminded the world that sport is a lot more than entertainment.
